Preschool Special Education

What to do if you have concerns about your preschool aged child's development…

  • Speak with your family doctor regarding your specific concerns.
  • If your concerns continue, call the Early Childhood Coordinator. The coordinator can set up a screening to help answer basic question or she will help you complete the referral process for a more in depth assessment.

Evaluation Process

1. Put your concerns in writing or call the Early Childhood Coordinator.

Be as specific as possible about the area of need so the testing can be identified related to the suspected disability.

2. Once the request has been received, the school district will contact you and an evaluation consent form will be mailed to your home.

3. From the date the consent is received at the school the specialist have 30 school days to complete the testing. Within 45 school days of the signed consent, a TEAM meeting will be held to review the outcomes of the evaluation and possible eligibility for special education services.

What is a Team Meeting...

The TEAM process is a collaboration between parents, school staff members and other professionals. The TEAM reviews testing and parent concerns toward a consensus that may include:

  • Recommendations for parents;
  • Related Services
  • An Individual Education Program to address more global concerns.
